I love the sound of the bass used in the band Tokyo Police Club. How can I get that tone? I have a fender jazz american standard and a peavy bass amp.
Would a pedal do the trick? Or something simpler? Anyone know what the bassist in TPC uses?
A somewhat similar tone is used in "Hang Me Up To Dry" by the Cold War Kids, but I prefer Tokyo Police Club's tone. They seem to always use the same tone which can most easily be heard in "Nature of the Experiment". |

Fulltone Bassdrive Mosfet
Fulltone Fulldrive
Keeley Baked Mod or Mod+
Analogman TS-9 DX Mod
Hell, even just a standard TS-9 will do it.

| | | | I've got an American Big Muff, but I can't get that tone out of it.
The TS9 seems pretty good to me but I can't find any bass samples of it. |

The Big Muff is a fuzz, a mid scooped one, that is far higher gain that a the typical tube screamer mid heavy overdrive. The important thing to note is that the tone you are looking to mimic is low/medium gain overdrive, and you can't get that with a fuzz pedal.

It's really cheap too and has a better bass response than most tubescreamer pedals. Other tubesceamer clones I know of that work well no bass are the BBE Green Screamer and Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive (which also has a nice blend control). |

| | | | I think the real challenge here isn't getting that sound but getting it with a J-bass, not a P-bass. |

If I use my ebs multidrive in front of my svt-cl with a p-bass it sounds exaclly like that. With a J-bass you'll never get that sound but using the neck pickup, you'll be close enough for live applications. |

| | | | I don't really know anything about pickups or amps to be honest. I'm a newbie when it comes to equipment.
I know someone who's willing to sell me a digitech BP200, would that work? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
