Hey guys! I've been listening to a lot of Cheap Trick lately, and I have been trying to figure out what Tom uses on songs like Sick Man of Europe off their newest album. It sounds like some sort of distortion, but its so...crunchy. Haha. Thanks for the help! |

Basses: Waterstone, Gibson Thunderbird, Fender P, Hofners
Amps: Hiwatts and Reeves
Effects: Radial JB-7 Splitter, SansAmp Bass Driver DI.
Kromwarp is right, he does generate most of the distortion with the amps: the article mentions he uses 3 amps: one really distorted, one not so distorted and one for the low end..
Hope this helps.

Tone is influenced by bass & amp, but as best as I can tell, just by turning the SansAmp gain near its max and playing with a pick should get you near that tone.... I don't hear another effect on this.

I have the guitar version of the Big Muff, and I've heard before on here that it takes away too much of the bass, but I didn't really see it. So I was also just debating on using that and seeing if I could make that work too. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
