Tone Hammer (with AGS) + Drive/Fuzz/Distortion pedal?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'd set a chain of pedals to my amp like this:

Bass - tuner - drive pedal - Tone Hammer - Amp

I always used Tone Hammer with the AGS on, it gives it that vintagey punchy tone, without it, it's too modern for me.
Now, would a drive pedal before TH, with AGS turned on, work fine? Or would it become muddy and crappy sounding?
Anyone use Tone Hammer and some sort of Drive pedal?

Might want to PM P-oddz. I know he runs the TH with a few other dirt pedals...

If you put dirt before the TH, it will make it grind harder (more dirt). I used to put a boost in front of the TH to push it into heavier clipping (works great). I recommend the Phat Phuk B from Wren & Cuff

I use the Tone Hammer in conjunction with other dirt pedals (the Zvex Distortron, and also an Agro pedal). The Tone Hammer works absolutely well with the other pedals. My always on tone is with the AGS engaged, but I'm usually only dialing the drive at about 10-11 o'clock.

As mentioned above, it just pushes your dirt that much harder.

Thanks P-oddz! That's exactly what I had in mind. Not going overboard with the AGS gain.
