Tone help needed.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey there fellow TBers, newer screen name, didn't post on my old one much, but been reading the forums a long time now.

I have a question, I was wondering if anyone could give me some help digging out the tone from this song, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIEOZCcaXzE

I really dig the actual tone and would like to use it for some self composed songs.

Also note, some of the qualities may come from after recording effects and what not. Just wondering what the closest to the tone I could get is with a live set up, be it what pedals may have the closest qualities, which amp settings. The most confusing aspect of the tone is that that punch at the end, and almost seems like it plays back a tiny bit on it self.

Anyhow, I am terrible at explaining tones haha.

Anyways, any help appreciated, and thanks for looking!

Bah, yeah it sounded like it was more recording magic than anything, but yeah, anything to get a sound even kind of close to that would be nice, but thanks for the post Mike, much appreciated.

No problem, I'd be interested in what the effects pros around here suggest though. I could use something similar in my arsenal.

It's a keyboard. There are a few pedals that can cop a similar sound, such as the Korg G5 (search on "synth" for much, much more info) and you can also use a MIDI-enabled bass to control a synth sound module.

MIDI enabled basses make nearly anything possible. They're also incredibly expensive.

Bah, I figured it was keyboard controlled, I have a friend whose really into them, asked him a few minutes ago about when he saw them live, said they used a keyboard as well.

Thats what I thought, but wanted to check in with you all, being more knowledgeable than I on effects.

I guess I will have to head to some local shops and toy around with some pedals, and just get as close as I can, haha. And yeah, it would be nice if we could all have 1 midi enabled bass in our stable, but money isn't free -_-, and neither are basses.

Thanks all!

So many layers of synth in that song.... I wonder how many keyboards were used.

I'd say probably zero tangible synths. In music like this, so often a band or artist just uses soft synths and sequencer programs to create their song. They may use a midi controller, but some don't even do that anymore.
