I would recommend the Fromel Shape Eq also the Fix My Duck pedal both are excellent at adding that special "something" to my tone

I have 3 pedals that I use from making my basses sound mo' better.

Zeibek Submarine mk 3, simple warm round slightly compressed. Hard to find but there are a few clones starting to pop up since Os went away.

[sfx] AY-2, essentially an updated version of the Yamaha NE-1
really helps to focus the mids giving me a simple way to get 3 dramatically different variations of my basses natural tone with the flip of a switch.

Durham Sex Drive
is a boost tone and compressor all in one
nice polish for tone.

Anybody know any good pedals that shape and color your tone while still sticking to the original sound of the bass itself?
The Sans-amp BDDI is a must on my rig and the pedals you pick will color your tone but it will not stay "original" with pedals. That is the reason to add pedals in the first place to make a bass tone different.

In my Americana band I use just the Sans-amp direct to my amp.

In my loud, Indie rock /garage band I use a Hardwire CM-2 overdrive and an envelope wah with the SA BDDI. I just added a TC flashback delay/looper for some fun effects.

It's up to you go out and try different pedals and see what you like. I prefer GC to buy pedals so if they don't sound right in my rig I return them.

Hey bassbrad I have a AY-2 Max made one in the micro format I love it .I forgot about that one because it's always on its like my compressor I sometimes forget I have one. I'm going to do a comparison review between the AY-2 and the Nathan East another pedal to consider as a great always on pedal.

Also, I heard the Xotic EP booster is good for coloring guitar tone. What about bass??
Ive never tried an ep boost on bass but the bass rc boost is pretty awesome... i think the ep boost has a good bit of mid hump, some people like that, others don't...

I have my BDDI on all the time and use a BOSS CS-3 compression pedal to round out the sound Classic Rock, Southern Rock, Blues, Hard Rock, Metal, Pop it works well for them all.
Compression can help and hurt, a little goes a long way and too much can take you right out of the mix. RTS

I did my own shoot out and quickly sold off the NE1 as I didn't see myself needing it any more, the AY2 is more versatile, had more gain, a more conventional design and a bypass.
