Tonebender Clone Update

The update is basically that I'm a douche. The full story, however, is that it's not entirely my fault. IC Pin-Outs are from a top down view, and those are what I'm used to. Transistor Pin-Outs are from a bottom up view. I didn't remember that. Basically, I installed the 3 transistors backwards. A full gamut of sound clips is to follow, but for the time being, I have this comparison clip. The first part of the clip is the pedal, as it was originally constructed, the second part is the pedal, with the transistors the right way around.

What surprises me is that when the Transistors are installed backwards, the pedal still works, it just doesn't sound good. Now, however, it sounds great. I'm still going to try and tweak the pedal, by properly setting the bias on the transistors, but for the time being, the transistors don't seem to have any adverse effects from being installed backwards, they sound good.

It would be a Sola Sound MKIII being that is has 3x knobs and Germanium trannys
Its the smoother sounding of the variety

I'm guessing the Jumbo doesn't use germs?

Nope. Silicon harshness all the way!

Same as the re-issue.

Hm interesting.

In that case, I might stay away from the MK3 then... the Tonebender I have isn't that harsh but just right

Yeah... Sorry, wasn't really the best description. Its not incredibly harsh, just harsher than the germs. Its to do with the way the silicon trannys move into signal clipping over the germs.

The pedal can get a good fuzz going on, but it's on the smoother end of the spectrum, I definitely wouldn't call it snarling. But it retains some serious low end. I'll post the rest of the clips in a few days.

Chronicle, where are you in Long Island? If it's cool with you, when I make my second pedal, we could meet up, and I could directly compare my clone with a real Tonebender.

I live in Suffolk. That would be cool if we can compare. I have the Re-issue so i have the silicon transistors so it'll sound different. If it's close enough, i'd buy it on the spot..
