Tool - the pot bass effect

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been listening to this song for a while now first off Justin Chancellor has got some skills. He's put some different twists on octave grooves that I would have never thought to have tried. Very simple style, but complicated at the same time.

Anyway, what is he using to blend the effect for the song "the pot." Its almost like he can make it scream in your face and then he dropps his balls on you with that hard, no nonsense, heavy distortion. Anybody know what he uses to get that sound?

I have no clue.

But get ready to have a million smug people come in here and write 5 posts about how you should use the search function because it has already been covered. when it would take them much less time to just write the answer for ya.

the blend comes from the fact that he uses two amps(and a direct xlr out of his wal in the studio). one amp is clean and one dirty.

I recommend to watch this YouTube channel:

There are several videos from that song.

I didn't realize that expecting people to follow forum rules so that the same dozen questions aren't answered an endless amount of times was the Merriam-Webster definition of smugness. Guess we glossed over that in school.

He's got a clean channel (the one with his main effects) and a dirty channel, on with a little bit of distortion thats always on underneath the clean.

For the bas "solo" he's using the volume control of his bass along with the +octave shift on his whammy, along with his auto wah, along with his distortion, along with a little delay.

Reason to be a search nazi:

5 complete, thorough, and necessary threads are much easier to sift through as opposed to 14 pages of the same ****ing question over and over again. I search nearly every time I'm on TB, and if everybody else did too, there would be less clutter, keeping the information:crap ratio much higher than it currently is.

Search. Read. Zombie Thread that mofo if required. Love.
