Top 10 bass FX of all time?

Sign in to disble this ad
what would u consider your desert-island fx?.. If u could have ANY fx pedal, vintage or modern.. Guitar or bass fx..

Which are the all-time go-to, never fail stomp boxes in your opinion..?

I'm creating a pedalboard from the ground up and I'd really live to hear faves for overdrive, compression, wah, chorus, fuzz.. All of it!
Or just some great must-have pedals for u guys..
I'm open to vintage or newer stuff,
Love to hear your opinions..

I saw this list of top 101 guitar fx of all time:
http://www.effectsbay.com/2011/01/gu...t-stomp-boxes/
& it made me think, what about bass fx, what are the most requested pedals of all time..

After going through 50+ pedals and multi-effect units, here's a list of what I have. I don't plan to make a change anytime soon.

-Korg Pitchblack
-VT Bass
-Boss OC-3
-Source Audio BEF
-Opto Stomp
-Boss GEB-7
-Boss CE-5
-Boss DD-3

My desert island FX would be the BEF.

50 pedals, huh? thanx, I'll def examine your list..VT Bass must have sold a boatload of units,I see that on everyone's list.
the only absolutely- essential-I- can't- live- without-it-pedal I can think of
is my Pitchblack Plus tuner/AB box,
i can switch to my UBass or acoustic guitar quickly,
it keeps my rig small and neat, and it's the only tuner I've ever owned where the "needle" doesn't jump/ bounce up & down..
and the strobe/fine tuning feature is wayy more precise IMO

I WISH I had an overdrive & compressor I love as much, one reason for this post,I'm gonna plan this board out slowly, try a lot of effects, and return whatever doesn't make the cut.

What am I missing with the Source Audio BEF? I have mine up for sale in the classifieds. I simply cannot dial the pedal in with my setup. What amp/cab(s) are you using?

The two best effects I've touched in recent years have been the D*A*M Super Bee fuzz, and the Blackout Effectors Whetstone. The Whetstone would be my island choice. It's fun to tinker with.

I've tried the Super Bee on guitar, it's that authentic Incence & Peppermints fuzztone,
amazingly authentic is what I remembered.. the other one is a phaser, right?
I suppose something like that might be nice on clean intros,bridges..mellower parts..I'd always feared a phaser on bass, thinking it'd suck out low end, but that's an interesting thing to explore..

I've also been through a lot of effects! I've had pedal sales of 14-15 each, still have 18. I have an addiction. lol

My desert island effect is a 3Leaf Groove Regulator, hands down. I owned/played 17 filters before I found the 3Leaf and it ended my search. Thick buttery funk goodness! Spencer has since updated to the GR2, which I also own and I'm not getting rid of either one.

Overdrive has also become high on my list (I'm currently on #11, still own 7). Not grindy, crunchy, noisy overdrive though. Subtle overdrive that's just on the far side of barely noticeable, to add warmth to your sound. I'd have a tough call picking a favorite at the moment... Catalinbread SFT and Tubeworks Blue Tube are tied for first I think, but I also recently got a VT Bass and OLC Flipster and both are very good too.

My Personal Top 10:
1- Groove Regulator/GR2
2- SFT/Blue Tube
3- MXR Bass Octave Deluxe
4- Pigtronix EP2
5- Sansamp BDDI
6- Boss PS-5 (sidenote: I use mine in Detune mode as a Chorus)
7- EHX Freeze
8- Aphex Bass Xciter
9- EHX Stereo Mistress
10- Sansamp VT Bass

Fun thread! Subscribed. Interested in other responses.

5sg.

Top 10 of all time?

No order...

1. boss oc-2
2. Sansamp BDDI
3. Mutron III
4. EHX Big muff
5. Lovetone Meatball
6. Digitech bass whammy
7. Subdecay Quasar DLX
8. Boss CE-5
9. Boss BF-2 or BF-2b
10. Tonebender

Not only do these effects sound good, but they are very influential. Many of those choices have numerous clones out there and bassists around the world have been using these effects for the undeniable quality sound they produce.

A GK MB500, an MB200 & a GB Shuttle 3.0/10T with 2x Neo 112 and a 112 MBX.

Your amp/cabs shouldn't matter with the BEF. Maybe, you have different preferences for an envelop filter. Anyway, start with Effect #1 (Groove Regulator emulation), Frequency at 9, Range at 3:30 and Speed either at 1:00 or at 11:00 and see what happens.

Blueberry, Maxon CP-9 pro, Pitchblack, and Q-tron. I'm gassing for a nice long delay and if money were no object I'd try the Pigtronix Ecolocution.

Wait just a second... the BEF has a Groove Regulator setting? Does Spencer know that (and that's not meant in a bad way). That's an awesome compliment that they're emulating it and props to him, he's only 19 I think!

Anyone can emulate anything. Otherwise, companies like Line 6 or Tech 21 would be in court all the time The BEF won't replace the GR. The timbre of Effect #1 has resemblance to that of the GR. That's about it. Emulation in music is indeed a BIG compliment.

I'm not a big effects junky, but here's what I'd like on my desert island:

Tech21 VT Bass
Turbotuner
My home brew Big Muff
EH POG 2 - I don't own this one yet, but perhaps the folks stranding me on the island could spring for it. I love those organ sounds.

EDIT: On second thought, I could live without the VT Bass if the aforementioned desert island people would supply me with an SVT, and someone to lug it for me

The MXR EVH-117 Flanger is the best sounding modulation effect I've ever owned, and I'm not even that much into Flangers. This one in particular is just perfect. My Blackout Musket (V2) is also indispensable, as it's the only dirt pedal I've ever owned that made me more prominent and filled out the mix better while on, as opposed to most which steal the low end and/or disappear.
