Torn between two rig choices (multi vs. pedals)

My main effect unit of choice is a Boss ME-6B multi-effect unit from the early 90's. I bought it because I'm a major Stuart Zender fan and he used one when he was with Jamiroquai. It has some amazing effects in it -especially the dynamic filters/synths. Even the digital fuzz sound is really unique. Here are a few examples of what it can do:

Clean dynamic filter during verses...

Dirty dynamic filter during the chorus...

Digital fuzz/overdrive during the verses...

The only problems I have with it is that it's made of plastic, the compressor isn't too great, and the jacks are all just mounted directly to the circuit board. Some of the jacks have started feeling loose. If I DID replace it with stompboxes, I'd probably go...

DIY Mutron III clone >> Rocktron Deep Blue >> BBE Optostomp

I'd miss out on having the fat fuzz and synth effects from the ME-6B, but the signal path would be 100% analog and the construction would be far better. Maybe I'm just rehashing Zender's old tone too and should work on my own sound.

What do you think?

Well, we have the old "multi vs. singles" conversation pretty much every day here. So I won't go into that. But if I was you I'd re-house the jacks and switches of the ME-6B into a separate metal stompbox, maybe with a better bypass switch, and just run a ribbon cable from the ME-6B to the all-metal "interface box". Then add an Optostomp.

Well, I'm leading towards the ME-6B for the dynamic filter sounds alone. But I'd be prepared to ditch it if the Mutron III could provide a similar sound.
