Transparent Grit is what I want

OK, so I want to dirty up my tone in the cleanest way possible
What this means is I want dirty--maybe a lot, maybe a little--but I want it to JUST be dirt. I don't want SansAmp Emulation Circuitry and a blend knob that doesn't allow grit without it!

graphic fuzz? Not that I use it or even like it myself... but it sounds like you WANT a nu-metal fusion of clean and dirty, so there you go.

You could try turning up the preamp gain on your amp.

Are you talking about dirt without colouring your tone?

I would go for an Analogman modded TS-9 tubescreamer. It is as transparent as heck and the grit it does give sounds amazing.

There are plenty of pedals that are transparent in different ways, but by and large you can always expect some coloration, at least in my experience. Definitely not so much as with a Sansamp though. There have been many threads about getting "grit" before, I'd recommend searching through them and seeing what you could learn.

If I understood you right, and you want some grit which doesn't colour your tone too much, the EBS MultiDrive is worth checking out.

Something with a blend, such as a Sparkle Drive or a NOC3 Pure Drive will enable you to dial in your clean tone, while overlaying your overdriven tone on top to help retain that clean body to your tone.

otherwise the Fulltone OCD, or Fulltone Bassdrive in Comp-Cut mode might be worth trying out.

Maybe an HBE Hematoma, based on the clips in the wiki?

I know I want it

I went out today and bought a Barber LTD SR because of this thread.

Its amazingly true to my clean tone.

I'll post a review tomorrow after band practice.

Yes the EBS Multidrive! But only on the middle setting (std) on the small switch. It's a winner, you _must_ try this one. I tried a few pedals the other day, but only the EBS pedal (on this STD setting and "low settings"), gave me what I believe you want. Let us know what you think!

+1000 Vodoo Labs Sparkle Drive...$129.99

I recently had the same want and this is what i bought sounds fantastic...

This is an overdrive pedal based on the vintage TS808 format, it includes the original JRC4558 opamp, but has been modded with metal resistors and polyester capacitors which creates a tighter midrange, a crsiper high, and overall IMHO a far better capacity for note definition than the original 808. They have also added a clean boost channel which allows you to blend the clean signal with the overdrive circut. This allows you to boost the direct clean signal which in turn restores the attack and feel which is usually lost in most pedals when the signal is compressed in the ovedrive circut.
