Hi, TalkBass!
I've got more effect pedal advice to ask.
I LOVE using tremolo effects, but unfortunately I do not own one.
I'm thinking of buying one, however. I'd really like it to be cheap and cost-effective. I like to use a really choppy sound, no light pulses. I also need to be able to remove the rate knob (To attach a third-hand pedal to it to use to adjust the rate while playing.)
I've considered Ibanez ToneLok, because those are fairly cheap pedals and I've looked at Boss TR-2's, but they are way to expensive for my tastes.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I can't think of any really choppy square wave trems in the low end of the price range other than the Boss TR-2, but I didn't like the stock version nearly as much as the Keeley modded one. The EHX Pulsar has a square wave setting but it isn't as choppy as I wanted. Not my favorite trem, but in your price range.
A used Boss PN-2 would also work really well, but they've been selling for a good deal more lately than they used to.

I'm not rich after all, I still have to buy cabling kits and the third hand.
Plus, I'd also like an adjustable depth to be on the safe side.

If you were looking for a triangle wave trem, there are a few I could recommend (the Danelectro Tuna Melt is surprisingly good as a mellow trem) but real cutting trems in your price range are stumping me at the moment. The Pulsar may be your best bet.
Or maybe a used Valcoder. |

Or maybe a used Valcoder. | Well, usually on the TR-2, when I fiddle with it, I have the Wave set all to square and depth all the way up.
I know Justin Chancellor uses the Guyatone, is that a possible option?

Also, it's a tube trem with an asymmetrical waveform, not a square wave. Great trem though. |

And also, do you know of a good, deep Fuzz for a bassist on a budget? It needs to not be too noisy, just very fuzzy.

I use an old Boss PN-2 Tremolo/pan pedal. It cuts really hard and sound great with overdrive. But used they go for $120-$160.

Hunt ebay my friend. | Well, I'm kind of not exactly buying right away, and for a Tremolo, I've kind of decided I'm going to go with a custom built box, with an expression output to save money on the Third Hand.
It'll be 110, but considering I'm not buying it right now, maybe it won't be too bad.
EDIT: I meant the Fuzzrocious pedals. Sorry.

Not the best tremolo pedal out there, but from what I gather, certainly the most highly regarded in the budget price range (I liked it anyway). You should be able to easily find one for under $30 new on eBay. |
