Tremolo with Ramping/Expression Pedal control over Depth

Sign in to disble this ad
Let me preface this by saying that I like my TR-2. It's cheap, functional, and does more or less everything I need it to do.

But...

I happened to go and see Dead Meadow on the 10th, and there's an effect that my trusty TR-2 can't duplicate, at least, not easily.

If you listen to the tune, at about 1:30 the guitarist kicks in a space echo.

I'd love to be able to replicate that effect using a tremolo pedal instead (though if you guys tell me to go out and find a space echo, I won't be too put out ),and be able to either ramp up from a depth of 100% from totally dry, or be able to control it with an expression pedal.

So, any ideas/suggestions?

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the 4ms Tremulus Lune, which has an option for exp control of depth (or speed, if you wanted).

I have played 4ms pedals (and the Trem Lune specifically) personally and think they are fantastic.

I'll second the 4ms recommendation. I have their Nocto Loco and it's an excellent pedal. I'm probably going to have Dann build a tremolo with CV control over rate and depth at same point. With the MP-201, I'd be able to tap tempo or midi beat sync the rate and then use the expression pedal for depth swells.

Any of the multi-effects units can probably do this since they typically include the ability to assign various parameters to expression pedals. On the BOSS GT series or the BOSS VF-1 you could assign rate AND depth to the same expression. It'd start with a shallow, slow trem then ramp up both the speed and depth at the same time. Or have the depth go down while the rate goes up. Lots of options. And you can usually assign between 4-8 real-time parameters to the same expression to get really crazy.

Wow good band, never heard of them before. Sounds like they'd have a real good vibe live too.

I don't know enough about tremolo's to help you out, but props for good taste!

sounds like a kill switch would work for that too.

But that'd be a) less fun, and b) less useful. I'm not Tom Morello, man!

Ok, you've caught me, I am Tom Morello.

Definitely check them out if they're in your area...

Actually, they're playing in Philly tonight. Probably a little short notice, but tickets were real cheap (I paid $12 for mine)

+1 to the ModFactor.
It can ramp up/down between banks in bank mode, or between fast/slow and brake in play mode. Plus you can assign any control other than changing the effect with an expression pedal. I'm totally loving mine.
