Tried a stock Bad Monkey today.

I used an Indonesian Vintage Modified Jazz bass (the one with the block inlays) into an Acoustic B20 1x12 combo amp. It sounded pretty damn good stock. Nice and nazzty. Between the EQ controls on the pedal and the amp I was able to dial in some tasty tones. I may buy one and use it stock, despite all the people who seem to mod them for bass.

I use it stock and love it. Good for woofy and Wetton-esque tonez.

The thing that I didn't like about the Bad Monkey was the bypass. It's a tone sucker, IME. But, it has a nice warm mellow drive.

They sound great stock, although I did change the input cap to let through a little bit more low end. If you let through too much before the clipping stage it really changes the character and gets very farty.

One of the coolest features of the pedal is the speaker sim output, but nobody on here seems to care about that stuff, they would rather just DI straight out of an overdrive pedal, yuk

I love it as well, works nice with my SVT too

but I am considering getting the badder bass mokey to improve on the tone suck a bit and get a wider freq response I hope whilst on

I use the stock Bad Monkey with that same MV Jazz (although mine has SD Quarter Pounders in it) and I really like the tone. It does seem to steal a little bit of your very deep lows, but you can dial a lot of low-mids in with the bass control. For $50 or less, it's a steal.

I also use the BM as a preamp for my church gigs when I'm just running DI. It adds a bit of warmth and can get fairly clean if you turn the gain way down.

I agree about the speaker sim output. I just rewired my pedalboard, and I purposfully left myself enough room to change from "Amp" output to "Mixer" output for when I'm running without an amp.
