So it seems to me the vast majority of "Bass Overdrive" pedals are actually bass DISTORTION pedals.... with very little finesse to them at all. The worst of them destroy low end, the best of them still have way too much gain even at thier lowest settings.
I'm looking for a pedal that adds upper harmonic content and overdrive... not distortion. The video below is an example of the overall CHARACTER I'm looking for, despite being about too notches more actual overdrive than I'm looking for...
Thanks in advance for any advice!!

I wouldn't say it's exactly the character you're looking for, but it definitely is good for bass and it is priced really well. |

Also, the Fulltone OCD is a really nice overdrive on bass (haven't tried it myself though. only heard it). Lastly, try a Proco Vintage Reissue Rat with the Ruetz Mod. This is something I have tried and the mod takes it from an aggressive guitar distortion to a warmer bass overdrive. I really liked that pedal a lot. |

Kinda like what a Boss ODB-3 would produce: MP3 Player SoundClick

It does not have too much gain. And you can try the Sansamp BDDI which has less gain then the VT bass. |

It kicked my bad monkey right off my board.

It also has a tone control that if I remember correctly is based on a FET preamp that in and of itself will add some harmonics and "sheen" to your tone. Also, it has a really tiny form factor if pedalboard space is tight. |

| | | Pork loin is an awesome pedal with smooth OD. Very subtle OD, not aggressive IMO.
I had one and foolish sold it...
Good Luck!

Right now, my flavor of the month is the Digitech Hardwire Tube Overdrive, which is basically an improved Bad Monkey. Since I've always been a fan of the BM, I figured an even better version of it would suit my needs and I was not disappointed.
I also have an Exar TaBASSco and it is quite good as well, though I currently have mine for sale in the Classified section.
