Anyone using it with a clean SS amp to get some grind out of it? If you post clips you'll get a cookie

Sorry, no clips but....

It has a very nice overdrive and can get into the hairy distortion realm with the boost mode on.

Works best with the line out into a power amp or as a pedal in front of a tube amp. It has a lot of output and you can easily clip the front end of a SS preamp if you're not careful.

The sweep from clean to dirty and everything in between is very wide, making it a very versatile tool.

It's a preamp, it's an OD pedal and an overall tone shaper. I like it much better than I ever liked the BDDI or VT pedals and I like both of those a fair amount.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'd like to try one to see if it can get some crunch out of my P bass with dead rounds, but I don't want to start selling stuff until I've heard a few more opinions.

Do a search here on TB and here

http://www.electrical.com/phpBB3/

You could also sign up there and ask, you'll get tons of responses. I'm not sure if there are more than a handful of Tbers with Rusty Boxes.

The Rusty Box is the best overdrive I've played through. I absolutely LOVE it. Like Volume4 says, it's a great utility box, and I LOVE how clean OR dirty it gets and always sounds great.

theavondon and behndy are two more loyal users of it.

Is it any good to get some growl/grind (growly grind? grindy growl?)? I'm looking for dirt that won't mess up my note definition i.e. not fuzzy.

Oh yes! Turn up the gain, or run another boost/overdrive into it and it ROARS.

You won't happen to have any clips, right?

I've been wanting to record clips forever. I haven't had my camera in a while.
Though in all honesty, I feel like any clips I record wouldn't do the audio quality enough justice.
I can try again today. I did one video but the audio was WAY too loud. It's worth a cookie.

Don't have any clips sorry, but I was using mine into either my Orange AD200B or GK MB500 as an overdrive rather than a preamp as such.

I found it had a similar overdrive character to the Hotcake that I had been using, except "fatter" in the low end and heaps of treble. That description makes it sound mid scooped but it isn't (unless you want it to be). Have now gone back to the Hotcake into the Orange, or the Hotcake into a VT (set clean) into the GK.

The top end was the main reason I stopped using it, cool sound but a bit too full on for my bands. A friend (and fellow Shellac and Jesus Lizard fan) is buying it off me for his hardcore band, works really well for him.

i did a little video thing here. unfortunately the mic on the camera's not the greatest so the clean part is a little bitty distorted.

I've seen all those videos from Tronographic. What I need is a video of the pedal with the gain turned up to see how growly it can get.

oh SHIZZbot. i forgot.

so..... we're doing a GTG in Oakland this Sunday. i believe the plan was to do some recording of some of the gear. Matt Dean's s'posed to some mics and i'm bringing a vid camera. i use mine into a solid state power amp, but there will be some ampsmwith eq's there.

i'll try to get some clips recorded there if you want.

you want it run as an effect for grindy dirt into a ss head? is that how you plan on running yours?

Thanks Behndy! Yup that's exactly how I would use it. I want to get some growl out of my Ashdown, which is pretty fat and clean.
