And your "crap playing" is always cool in my book. Dig it.

thanks meng! furrrrrrrrrk YEAH the Rusty Box is always on. i don't even use a "real" amp. i always run it as a preamp at the end of my chain into a power amp.
cool thing about the Rusty is that it's so responsive to playing. really tightens up aggressive playing too. MEOW. |

Thinking about getting a big crown to mess around with and not fuss with more preamp. Especially since my fearfuls were finished, I've found myself not wanting to play with the EQ on my amps much.

If only it had an XLR out............Thats a heckuva sound with that gain cranked.

right there with you. i went BDDI, PBDI, PBDI with a VT Bass, VT Bass Deluxe..... then i realized i wasn't quite getting the tone i wanted. hence, Le Ruste'.
and actually, it sorta does have a DI. it has 2 outputs, one is balanced. if you use the balanced out with a 1/4 to XLR cable, bladow. DI output. i bring a cable with me to shows, if the soundperson won't mic me that's how i go. works great. |

so if you ran Comp -> Chorus -> Rusty -> Fuzz -> Filter only the Comp and Chorus would go to your poweramp, not the Fuzz and Filter.
if you think of it in terms of running a "normal" head, you're really just splitting the preamp section and the poweramp that are in the head into two parts. and if you were going a bunch of effects into a head, the preamp would be at the end of the chain normally.
why do you like the comp and chorus after the RB? |

they did good stuff with this box. and built like a TANK.
also, the og power supply runs at 40 volts. if you're on a pedalboard and have a Supa Charger or Pedal Power 2 as your power supply you can get a y-cable that will let you run it at around 30 volts. i a/b'd that way and the wall wart that came with it, i couldn't hear a difference. plenty of headroom in there. |

i don't use it in my setup, but it's a cool extra thing to have. |

Rusty Box. Is sho shecksy. bejndy rules the low-end freqz.

Right out of the box and with little knob turning I got great overdrive and distortion. I love the boost button too. This should be a mandatory purchase for every bassist. |

one of US. one of US. ONE OF US.
sweet! yeah, i LOVE this bugger. lately i've kept it at the same eq settings, but bumped the gain from about 25% to 50%. made my rig quite a bit louder without pushing the power amp as hard and a little more oomph.
love. this. pre. |

Yes, they're two different animals, but can get similar sounds. I need to use the deep switch on the MXR because it would sound bassier and probably more similar to the Rusty Box. Also need to try different EQ settings on the Rusty Box.
