Awesomeness! Still have my Rusty Box always on at every gig and practice. Lovin' the clips, Ben; definitely shows the range of the pedal.

And your "crap playing" is always cool in my book. Dig it.

meh. sloooooooooopy this one is. talk like Yoda as punishment will.

thanks meng! furrrrrrrrrk YEAH the Rusty Box is always on. i don't even use a "real" amp. i always run it as a preamp at the end of my chain into a power amp.

cool thing about the Rusty is that it's so responsive to playing. really tightens up aggressive playing too. MEOW.

I'm leaning towards a power amp/Rusty Box setup. Haven't been there in like five or six years, but I like the flexibility it provides and my love of Rusty Boxes means temptation.

I have it in my set up, but before a compressor and chorus. Does the RB HAVE to be at the end of the signal chain to feed a poweramp?

Thinking about getting a big crown to mess around with and not fuss with more preamp. Especially since my fearfuls were finished, I've found myself not wanting to play with the EQ on my amps much.

Hearing the variety of sounds it gets makes me want one to replace my BDDI (I sorta get a similar sound out of my BDDI but can't get nearly enough mids, hence me running 2 mics and 2 DIs when recording). If only it had an XLR out............Thats a heckuva sound with that gain cranked.

hey MmmJayyy!

right there with you. i went BDDI, PBDI, PBDI with a VT Bass, VT Bass Deluxe..... then i realized i wasn't quite getting the tone i wanted. hence, Le Ruste'.

and actually, it sorta does have a DI. it has 2 outputs, one is balanced. if you use the balanced out with a 1/4 to XLR cable, bladow. DI output. i bring a cable with me to shows, if the soundperson won't mic me that's how i go. works great.

hey homie! you can run it anywhere in your chain you want to, but it's only going to send stuff that are in front of it to a poweramp to get boosted into your speakers.

so if you ran Comp -> Chorus -> Rusty -> Fuzz -> Filter only the Comp and Chorus would go to your poweramp, not the Fuzz and Filter.

if you think of it in terms of running a "normal" head, you're really just splitting the preamp section and the poweramp that are in the head into two parts. and if you were going a bunch of effects into a head, the preamp would be at the end of the chain normally.

why do you like the comp and chorus after the RB?

@Behndy - Line Level 1/4" out? Now my GAS has increased tenfold.

yep! verrrrrrrrry useful design. one 1/4 unbalanced out that is full volume and one 1/4 balanced out that is the strength of the volume knob.

they did good stuff with this box. and built like a TANK.

also, the og power supply runs at 40 volts. if you're on a pedalboard and have a Supa Charger or Pedal Power 2 as your power supply you can get a y-cable that will let you run it at around 30 volts. i a/b'd that way and the wall wart that came with it, i couldn't hear a difference. plenty of headroom in there.

crap, i didna use the Boost switch in the demo, because my system is very finicky with peaks right now. but the second switch gives you a nice phat volume bump. great for standing out in a section.

i don't use it in my setup, but it's a cool extra thing to have.

The boost also is a treble boost. I'd like to try firing a Phat Phuk B into the ole Rusty Box sometime.

In my set-up, I definitely felt a good bit more tightness and warmth out of the Rusty Box at 30 volts, against 24 from a PP2+. Headroom is DELISH.

Rusty Box. Is sho shecksy. bejndy rules the low-end freqz.

I don't know how I missed this! Fantastic as usual man! How often do you change the volume level or do you usually just set it in one place?

That's my clean tone. The gain on the RB is only set around 9 -10:00 though.

Just got me a Rusty Box and got to spend just ten minutes with it last night and it kicks major ass. I love the tone. Right out of the box and with little knob turning I got great overdrive and distortion. I love the boost button too. This should be a mandatory purchase for every bassist.

*sidles close*

*starts chanting*

one of US. one of US. ONE OF US.

sweet! yeah, i LOVE this bugger. lately i've kept it at the same eq settings, but bumped the gain from about 25% to 50%. made my rig quite a bit louder without pushing the power amp as hard and a little more oomph.

love. this. pre.

Just for kicks, I A/B'ed it with the MXR El Grande Fuzz and the tone was very similar, but just a little brighter with the MXR, although I need to do a more complete comparison. I didn't have time to thoroughly do what I wanted.

Yes, they're two different animals, but can get similar sounds. I need to use the deep switch on the MXR because it would sound bassier and probably more similar to the Rusty Box. Also need to try different EQ settings on the Rusty Box.

I am gonna sell my EHX Bass Big Muff Pi.
