Trouble with MXR BOD

Sign in to disble this ad
I play in a hard rock/classic metal band-ebmm sterling 5 thru a genz shuttle 9, with a bbe opto stomp>bod>pork loin>amp, and was having trouble dialing in the BOD. What I want to use it for is for when the guitarist takes a solo, I can kick it in while playing in the higher registers to mimic rhythm guitar and bass. I've tinkered with this thing for 3 nights now trying to find a useable tone, and not having much luck. Does anyone else use this pedal for that purpose, and if so, can you share your settings? Thanks!

If it was me I'd have the Growl and Girth equal with both around 11 o'clock and the dry turned up so it was about equal volume with the midswitch engaged for a bit more clarity. The difficulty obviously is that analog octavers aren't multiphonic and not only does a bass an octave up not sound like a guitar, but the octave down on an octaver doesn't sound like a natural bass. It's a different tone for sure.

For that purpose I've found that an octave up (especially with a bit of distortion) sounds better as far as simulating a rhythm guitar/bass combo. I haven't come across anything better for that exact purpose than the discontinued Akai Unibass. The POG2 and HOG are two other (expensive) options.

Hope that helps.

^ That's about where my settings are. Sounds great to me. I also use a Micro POG when I want octave up as well.

It does. The dry set at 11 am works well for me. Was considering taking the BOD off my board before trying this setting.

Thx

I find that the BOD provides the cleanest possible tone when using only one of the octaves instead of both. I'd max the dry signal and put the octave of your choice at about 12 o'clock. Neither will sound like a bass guitar but I think the firth might give you the low-end support you seem to be looking for..

I use mine for what you are describing with the growl around 2:00, girth at a touch over noon, and the dry level at unity. Running that into some dirt sounds pretty darn fat.
