Question TRS right Angle Y cable: PLEASE HELP

Sign in to disble this ad
Can anyone help with where to find, or how to make the following?:

Y Cable for Effects loop on Bassbone
1/4" TRS (right angle) into two 1/4" mono (right angles)

I'm doing my best to keep my pedal board tight and tidy, and straight plugs out the side do not help. (another option to the one above). Would a TRS 1/4" into two female 1/4" mono's work (would it dergrade the signal too much)?

THANKS,
JD

I made a really nice insert cable for mine, and currently it just puts my M9 into the loop of the Bassbone, but it has also worked with a set of 4-5 Boss-size pedals. TRS straight to 2 x TS right angle plugs. If you used a right angle TRS plug you are going to be battling the unbalanced out and the tuner out, and you will have the leads popping up over the Bassbone... probably not the best setup.

I have been making these for customers for years, and they are never easy... and seemingly never the same! I made mine using Canare GS-4 and male ends because I had an idea of how much reach I needed. If you can accommodate the bulk of a female 1/4" jack and a mating plug in your setup, then you can make it with short leads and female jacks. Since I make them myself i can either modify it if I need to, or just build another.

Hmm.. I wonder if that cable could be used to turn a passive Ernie Ball volume pedal into an expression pedal?

Thanks Fretless...I think the right angle TRS would be okay b/c I have a pedal train board (so I can run all three outs on that side with right angles and just have them go under the board)....Do you know where I can find a right angle TRS?...does anyone make them?

Sure. Neutrik makes a nice one in the new X series. Call/Browse REDCO and ask them what options they have. Good guys. http://www.redco.com/

A few tips: Expect to have to mod the boot, or even the shell, to get two cables through. On the one in the picture I left the spring-style cable relief off the Canare straight TRS plug in order to gain the clearance. On a Neutrik you have to be careful because the clamp can twist the pair when you sock it down, and that can rip the connection apart. Think ahead and use a piece of shrink to mark the tip/send side of the Y cable. You can also use a piece of clear and shrink a label under it when you are done. Take your time and it isn't all that hard, but you have to make strong/clean solder joints and keep in mind that you are probably losing some stress relief.

Have Fun!

Awesome...thanks. I think I'll just order a custom thru Redco...all that other stuff is way over my head (although I'd love to learn it).

Thanks so much for the help!
