Question True Bypass needed when use effect loop?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok. I'm very rarely use effects, so I'm really not an expert.
My question is, if I use a pedal in the effect loop, instead before the input of my amp. A non true bypass unit will works as a true bypass unit? I can avoid to alter my sound if I use the effect loop?

Yes, but be aware that amp effect loops often expect to see line-level signals (not your typical effects floorpedal). Chances are you're better running 'pedals' in front of your amp, not in the loop.

+1 there are some exceptions, but generally, stomp boxes should go straight in the amps input.

I plan to go to Aguilar AG500 amp, it has many option for the effect loop: Series/Parallel; Send pot is Push/Pull for Line or Instrument level; Return pot is Push/Pull for Parallel or Series operation.

Then it should work great.

Other question!
A good compressor pedal also works great, in Aguilar's effect loop? or better to compress before the preamp?

It should work fine in either place, you're going to have to listen to see if one sounds better than the other.

Agreed, it is up to your subjective taste. If you like to play aggro and clip the input of the AG500, then you might like putting the comp in the loop. If you prefer not to get any clipping at the amp input, then you might want the comp in front of the amp. But even those suggestions are just suggestions, not rules.
