Trying to get a Bon Jovi bass sound

I'm trying to replicate the sound on 'It's My Life' but only know that its played on a five string. I don't know how else to describe it other than low and creaky lol

Any ideas?

Are you talking about the "BOW WOW" sound in the pre-verse part?

If so, I believe that it was played through a talk-box. That's what I've heard, anyway.

Everything I've read indicates that they DO NOT work that well on bass. That said, I've not tired one.

isn't the Bon Jovi bass sound pretty much a Gallien Krueger? Or was that just an 80's thing?

I think that what you've read was about the old style where they needed a separate amp to drive the talk box. As I understand, the newer versions that plug in like regular effect pedals work better.

Talked to TB'r "SVTB15"...he's friends with Hughy McDonald...and may be able to tell you what gear Hughy uses...Sadowsky Basses for sure, but I don't what his amp and effects rig looks like.

Lol thanks for all the input, of course the main bit is a talk box - I'm refering to Hugh's bass sound throughout the whole song - it sounds distorted and creaky...heard it on a few of Hugh's bass lines.

I thought the Talk box was just used with the guitar on the record??

If that's the case, can I get an approximation with some effects pedals?

hmmm try focusing your EQing around the mids-low mids... I would say... 600hz maybe? I'm thinking boost a bit there and a boost the lows, but less, then scoop some mids above 600 and leave the highs flat with the bridge pickup

I think that would work with my setup anyways...
