Question Trying to restore some lows

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently purchased a vintage pro co rat. This would be the exact distortion I was looking for if it just didn't suck my lows. I can go from a crunchy and violent punch to a smooth boomy sustained roar.

I have a reissue active jaguar bass, 2 x ampeg 410 svt powered by an ampeg svt 4 pro.

My question is, what should I use to restore my lows? I've looked into some bass boosts like the EHX mole but I've read that it can cancel my distortion. Or just a plain boost like the lpb-1. I've also looked into some EQ pedals, like the Boss GEB-7.

I just dont know what road to go down.

A blender. Boss LS2 (cheepest) if you know that a Rat doesn't reverse the polarity of the signal path...if it does you'd need the Xotic Blender that has a polarity switch.
Once you take out low end it's gone, and if you attempt to simulate it with an EQ, the result is mush...you are boosting nothing or very little...

or get the rat modded so that doesn't lose as much bass.

If you like the sound of the RAT, I suggest you mod it (or find someone that can mod it for you).

I have no experience with the Rat, but when I used to find myself in similar situations, I'd boost the lows going in to the overdrive/distortion. It's true you can't eq back what's not there, but I found this to work out much better.
That, plus the blending/modding suggestions...

You cannot "add back" anything that's lost. You CAN use a bypass looper, or blender pedal, or have the pedal modified.
