| It could be the Fuzz Face, but you'd probably have to really alter the bias on the transistors to get that tone. Perhaps a Fuzz Face clone (germanium, I think AC128's were what were used in the Dunlop red Fuzz Face) with adjustable bias, like an Analogman Sun Face? Those can get pretty gnarly if you slam them hard, and the bias control could get you some pretty nice tonal havoc going on. There's also the Analogman Peppermint Fuzz, which is an even gnarlier version of his Sun Face.
EDIT: Oh, also a Fuzz Face with a sagged voltage does those gnarly tones. So either a dying battery or a Voodoo Lab PP2+'s sag control could get you some pretty gnarly results like that. |
