Tube overdrive unit ???

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for an overdrive pedal with a single 12AX7 in it. I cant remember the name, they weren't cheap, and I think they were made in europe.

Does anyone remember them.......or anything that sounds similar.

Cheers
David

The ones that I can think of are the EBS Valve Drive or the Dave Hall Amps VTI.

I have an Aria TD Platinum drive pedal that uses mains voltage and a single 12AX7. Also there is an Australian built pedal, the Labsystems Basskadet.

any thoughts on the zoom b9? I know its not an overdrive pedal, its a multi effects unit, but it has a 12ax7 in it.

Nope, reviews are quite good for the two tube overdrive pedals.

There's also the Tubeworks pedals - the BlueTube works well for bass, I'm not sure about the others.

They can be hit or miss. I have two that I love, but I've bought others that I ended up returning, either because they were broken right out of the box, or because they sounded like crap. They're cheap enough that they are worth giving a try, esp. if you buy from somewhere with a no hassle return policy.

On tube ones, I'd be inclined for the EBS. Nontheless, Behringer big pedals, ya' know, the EHX and so rip-offs, are pretty decent: I used extensively, for specially hairy neighborhood rock-bar gigs, a VD-1, russian Big Muff Behringer clon... It was great bang for bucks, and kids buy it on the second you offer them, if needed a re-sell. Personally, I've never tried the tube Behringer overdrive (something like 999 in the model name, I don't recall), but it seems like a LED gives the tube it's glow, as one would expect from ANY tube being fed by 9v... It just won't glow for itself. (Think VOX's Bulldog with the "blue tubes"... they're actual tubes, but the light is a LED.

I tried an EH English Muffin pedal @ GC and it was something I might look into for my bass at some point.

Yesterday I tried running my bass through the ART tube PAC preamp/compressor I recently bought. It's a really nice unit and you can overdrive the preamp tube rather much if you want, which gives a pretty nice and warm overdrive sound. I haven't really used overdrive on bass before though, so I can't say how it compares to "real" overdrive pedals. The drawback compared to a pedal is that you can't switch the overdrive on and off very easily.

I bought the unit mainly for vocals, but now I think I should buy another one for the bass because of the compressor that works really nicely and is very easy to use. For the price, I don't think you can beat this unit...

IM going to buy the behringre units and really gut the suckers. Im more interested in the roomy cases. But I cant find anybody who just makes and sells the cases.
