Tube Simulator Schematics?

Anyone out there have any schematics for a tube simulator circuit? Or know how they work? I really want to try and build one.

why not get a tube pre DIY kit?

I'm not sure I'm experienced enough to do that. And I can't afford it right now.. I'm saving every penny for gear. It's not that I really need one, I just want to build something.

gotcha. yesterday i found a thread on here about building a "varitone circuit". not a tube emulator, but it looks simple and cheap to do.

That would be kinda cool! Does it replace the tone pot?

basically yeah. or you can get a "project box" from radio shack and make a stomp box out of it. i thiink all of those parts are at radio shack. if you want something more advanced, google "diy stompbox" or "diy effects pedals"
