Tuner for intonation - no pedal or rack tuners.

Sign in to disble this ad
Looking to acquire a new tuner. I'm mostly concerned with the tuner not jumping around and actually being useful for intonation. For convenience, I'm not interested in a pedal or rack style tuner since this will be an inhouse situation. Is anything out there worth using other than the Pitchblack or Turbo Tuner?

Small, cheap and faster than the racktuner.

It's a pedal, but the peterson strobostomp is one of the most accurate out there. Hey, if you've got an iPhone/iPod Touch, there's an app version that only requires a relatively cheap cable (well, cheaper than a real strobostomp anyway)

+1 for Peterson.
They've been doing tuners for a LONG time.
My son's pedal looks and works just like the old spinning disc ones....

I had an old Seiko I loved dearly. Some sticky fingers have relieved me of it sadly. These Peterson units are incredibly pricey...

+1 for the Peterson Strobo Stomp.

Although it's a pedal, it's ideal for intonation work. I like the Stomp as much as my old Peterson bench model.

Why not the Turbo tuner?

I'd choose a Peterson or a Turbo Tuner for intonation over all others.

In fact, I did. I own two different models of Turbo Tuners, the pedal and the non-pedal.

I've used the basic boss Tu-2 tuner for years and it's always worked fine for tuning and intonation. It has a metronome style back and forth wand mode as well as pseudo strobe mode. I use the "wand" mode(thats what i call it) to get it roughly in tune, and then switch to the strobe mode to fine tune. As all my bass guitars tend to stay in tune quite well i hardly use it anyway, and intonation is kind of a one and done type deal, especially when you use flatwounds and never change them.

SR Turbo Tuner. Much more accurate and fast, across all strings, than most of the competition--while costing much less than the huge old-school strobes.

Stroboflip, that's at least till I get my hands on a 590.......There is no substitute to the 590 or 490, when it comes to intonation

iPhone/iPad

Hi,

I developed an iPad app with 4 simultaneous strobe tuners (in Bass Guitar mode, 6 strobes in regular Guitar mode), so there's no waiting for note selection or needle settling, even with a fair amount of background noise. Up to 4 custom per-string intonation settings.

It's in Apple's iTunes App store: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/intun...385830688?mt=8

There's also an iPhone app for Bass tuning, but it's an early version that's not as nice or complete.

If anyone with an iPad tries this, please email me comments/feedback.

Thanks.

It can't be in a pedal or a rack format... What exactly are you looking for?

A pedal or rack tuner is more convenient than other formats where it's a live or in-house situation.

Peterson Strobostomp II, all the way.

No way I'd set intonation with anything less accurate. Not familiar with the Turbo Tuner, so maybe it's cool, but no other tuner I've ever tried (aside from a real strobe tuner) was as accurate as the Peterson. Pricey, yes, but there's no substitute for being in tune.
