| Tuner as Y-Splitter..?

Advice please: schools of thought here on TB are often split between 'just use your ears' and scientific examinations of sound issues.
I've been using my TU-3 tuner as a Y-splitter for years now when recording my standard passive Precision Bass. I am a tone geek as much as anyone else (especially in the studio), and I listen closely for signal loss and/or degradation. So far I've heard none, and the TU-3 works fine to my ears as a way to send my signal down two paths.
So, I've got the 'use your ears' thing covered. Can anybody advise me of the sound-science end of this practice?
