Turbo Rat Owner Query - LED Stays on?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I just bought a Turbo Rat via the bay. Is the Red LED meant to stay on at all times? Dim the effect is off and bright when on? ... also this is only when a lead is connected to the input, out doesnt make any difference. When both are connected its the same.

I Couldnt find a manual or info online, and on the website states "On/Off LED" as a feature but nothing more.

Also the filter doesnt feel very smooth, wondered if it indicated a mod of any sorts?

Probably a very quick thread this, but thanks in anticipation...

Could be a bridged solder joint (solder blob or even two leads touching).

Open it up and make sure nothing connected to the LED is touching.

Like most pedals it is suppose to be on when the effect is engaged. That with the filter knob being wonky makes me think that someone did something on the inside.

I know that some of the Rat pedals have a true bypass method that involves a 2pdt instead of a 3pdt. It does completely bypass the circuitry in bypass but there is some weird impedance trick to ground it uses to make it work. I can't remember the details, but that may be playing a role in going from 'on' to 'dim'. If it sounds good then I'm guessing it's fine. The filter is just a passive filter, so I'm not sure what you're looking for there.

Every Turbo Rat that I've ever owned or plugged into does that.

Thanks for such quick responses guys, and useful as well!

Checked the soldering which looked fine - none touching.

I agree it seems a bit weird that its on all the time, hence the post ,

It sounds then like there's reason for it, and its designed that way - although watching a few youtube clips didnt clarify that they all do it.

Vegas, you sound like you've come across a few, so I'll take your advice that its all good.

Sounds fine as well, although a bit late in the UK for me to be cranking it properly at the moment!!
