I noticed that Proco advertise this pedal as having a slight scoop in mid tones. Does this only apply to guitar eq bandwith, or would this effect bass guitars/amps too?

I quite like to use this pedal as a colouring effect with the gain all the way down, as i like the grainy texture it has. Although it is quite unique, are there any other overdrive/distortion pedals that compare to its type of drive sound, that may have a better mid boost? I find most other ones i have heard to be too 'fizzy' for my liking.

I was considering getting the rat 2 but see that it is looked upon as not being as good - is it really that bad?

Cheers

Way Huge Pork Loin, Fulltone Bassdrive, Fulltone OCD, MXR Micro Amp, maybe EH LPB. But i think all of them have them have different coloring, havent compared.
Personally i use it like that too, but i blend it with mid-boosted signal. Also good for barking distortion or even mild fuzz. But fact is, i have done mode to (removed cap).

Does the turbo rat need to the mid boost to cut through the mix? Or is the mid scoop not that bad?

I tend to use my amp on flat eq and have the rat tone around 2-3 o'clock, sounds nice to me on its own. Is it likely to get lost in the mix or sound too shallow in a live band set up?

It all depends on what kind of music you're playing, what other stuff is happening in the mix, and a whole bunch of other things.

Yeah of course, that is normal, but some pedals are good for that but others arnt - how much loss of low end or mids does the rat 2 produce?

Does anyone know which frequency is scooped in the turbo rat/rat ?

I don't know the answer to your mids question, but The RAT2 is all tint, high end, no low end, and falls out of the mix w/ high gain guitars.

Well, i dont know how it is alone, cause i never used it without any additional eq and/or clean blend. However, it cuts good in parallel with low mid boosted eq And it think you wont run it alone anyway, when you hear how much low end it loses.

This is true. I was just listening to a very rough room recording of a jam session I did with a few guys. It sounded good with just the bass and drums - I play a Warwick Corvette Proline and was running it through an old GK400 head and an Ampeg 8x10 cab. But when the guitarist came in - he was playing through a Mesa Tremoverb Rectifier half-stack - everything turned into a big sonic mush.
