Hows it done? ive read somewhere that changing the pots for others with less impedance was one way.

Well most guitar FX will work on bass, but if you mean modding a guitar effect to suit bass frequencies better I'm pretty sure its a pedal by pedal thing. I'm not really into pedal modding but changing the values of certain resistors(or pots), capacitors and inductors will affect the tone.

There's no single solution for this, you have to understand what are the limiting factors in a pedal and then mod those aspects. Changing pots is definitely not the answer. Very often it's a matter of modifying the circuit so that low frequencies aren't filtered out - this usually involves changing a few capacitors.

+1 to nifty. However if I want to blindly mod a pedal for more lows without understanding the circuit first, I usually try replacing the input and/or output caps with ones that are 10x the value of the ones that are in there. But that's like saying "when I want to fix an appliance without finding out exactly what's wrong, I just hit it really hard on the side". Sometimes it works.

Ah, the old Fonzarelli technique. They don't teach that one in school any more!

Wait, isn't this the first step everybody takes when fixing electronics?

...Well at least everybody that had a NES.

No, first you blow the dust out of the cartridge, then you wiggle it back and forth in the NES.

Then you play Tecmo Bowl.

I remember reading somewhere that in the backseat of an F-14 Tomcat a boot to the side normally fixed issues with the RIOs radar display.

We call that "percussive maintenance."
