Ok, this is simple. How do I get the tone of the great Twiggy Ramirez?
I own:
5 string bass with EMG P-J combo
Samsamp Bass Driver
Ibanez PD-7 Overdrive
Boss EQ pedal

Jeordie gets overlooked b/c he was in Manson, but as the primary songwriter and had some slick bass lines AND awesome tone, I'm a huge fan and have been for years. |

I've been a big fan of his for years, but don't hear much else besides a pick and newish strings most of the time. Dude is incredibly underrated, though mostly as a songwriter as opposed to a bassist.
Anyhow, hooray for Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeordie_White
Scroll down, has good information on the basses he uses.

I may have to pick up the next album they collaborate on. It went downhill after he jet(ted?)...
But yeah, T-bird, pick, 'Peg, you're golden. |

Yeah, Manson did suck without him! But Tim (the pile of ****) Skold is out, Jeordie is in, and all will be raped on the new album! (hahaha)
He didn't leave NIN, Trent kicked him out! What is worse is that Jeordie only found out by reading some interview in a magazine!
Anyway, I may get that MXR Blowtorch. I don't (yet) have the cash for a T-Bird, but im hoping to get a Goth one when I get married next year. She gets her ring, I get my T-Bird!

It wasn't even out when Jeordie joined NIN, much less, during his original stay with MM. The pedal's hardly two years old.

| Then what did/ does he use?
Also on the amp head? What settings should I dial in?

He was a total dick when I met him though...broke my heart.

There's a good Pearl Jam song about Jeff Ament meeting one of his basketball idols, and the dude completely blew him off, so he wondered how many times he had done that to fans of his own.
Blah blah blah...

The PD7 has allot more contouring options, so should I be able to get the same or similar tone?

They've very different beasts, the MXR is a vintage, guitar overdrive, whereas the Ibanez is a modern bass distortion.
Basically the MXR is what a I call 'clean' distortion, it's in the tube screamer family where when you click it on, you don't loose the tone of your instrument, you just get more gain.
Whereas the PD-7 has a more pronounced, "hello I've just turned on the pedal" sort of sound, all though this is lessened at low gain settings on the overdrive mode.
I don't think you'll get the same sound from the Ibanez, one of (this is just a guess) fundamentals of the tone is probably the MXR overdrive pushing his Ampeg rig into dirty territory as well. |
