i used a Crowther Double Hotcake for a little bit. found it a little difficult getting the two distortions to work together. still a cool pedal.

No one's mentioned the JHS Pandamonium, but it has an OD/Preamp side based off an SVT and their "4 Wheeler Fuzz" on the other side. They've posted some pretty good demos at the bottom of the page.

The Electro-Harmonix Germanium 4 Big Muff

Overdrive / Fuzz

Even if its named "big muff" the fuzz side does not sound like a big muff. It sound good, but don't expect to be a "classic" big muff.

And don't cost a lot, less than 100$ IIRC

On a tight budget, the EHX Bass Blogger might do in a scratch. The drive mode on it is pretty solid but the "fuzz" tone is very mild and more like a vintage old school fuzz than a modern buzzy fuzz.

As my first and only distortion only unit, I picked up a Pigtronix Disnortion to get a feel for what I want in the long run.

Its path runs thusly:

Octave up ringmod distortion into parallel 6 position fuzz and touch sensitive overdrive.

I tend to leave my 'fuzz' on the scooped setting but roll it at a lower gain setting to act as a sort of boost.

The unit has a buffered sidechain output that feeds the trigger in on my envelope phaser.

All in all, the OFO Disnortion is an amazing tool that I'm bound to get years more use from in live settings. Parallel effects are tha bomb...those sounds are blowing through my mind.
