Two-speed tremolo?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm thinking it would be nice to have a tremolo that can do two different rates and ramp between them.

I've seen the Diamond and the Cusack, both look cool, but don't quite operate how I'd expect. The Diamond can't do two rates with tap tempo, and the Cusack "sticks" on the second rate after you take your foot off the switch - I'd rather have it return.

Any other pedals worth checking out? I've seen the Chopper and the Ultrem but not looked at them properly yet.

The Empress can do two speeds but you establish them with the speed knob and then use the TT stomp to switch between them. And you don't have any control over the ramp time. I didn't use this feature all that often.

Really it sounds like you want the Chopper or simply a trem with a mod for expression control of rate. The two pedals I've tried that have expression control of rate built in are the Moog Ring Mod (takes some practice to stay in "tremolo range") and the Lovetone Wobulator.

We've got Big Cheese and Meatball clones and I've seen people asking for ? Flanger and Ring Stinger clones, but more than anything I'd like to see new versions of the Wobulator and Doppleganger.

Looks really cool but I think I'd need tap tempo.

What I've got in my head is a pedal that does tap tempo for the speed, and a feature to ramp up (or down) to a second speed ideally set as a multiple of the tap tempo speed.

Two very mental suggestions! I like your style, but I'm looking for something practical to use as a beat-locked effect.

That Lovetone box looks really nutsy.

neither have a tap tempo but the fulltone and SIB tremolos have a foot switch that will half (or double) the speed.

Yeah the Empress does the 2 speeds, cool in theory, but I can't keep it in time with no way to control the ramp. Maybe at the end of a song ramping it down in conjunction with a volume pedal or something could be a nice effect but Im not using it at the moment.

The Wob and Dopple are definitely very interesting pedals and I would jump on the opportunity to get a quality clone at a reasonable price (not necessarily cheap), but I could get a lot of use out of a grinder sized ? right now. I'd love to see any of their wilder creations cloned, but I'm really gassing for a new flanger.

With the MP201 and a Ring Mod you can set up a few speeds and tap tempo/midi sync them, although it's not exactly cost/size effective and in some trem settings a lowpass or dirt is ideal to mask the slight lfo tick/pop.

If you are using tap tempo why do you need to change speeds? Just change it with the tap tempo.

Because I'd like to sync it to the tune, then use the multiple/division tempo as an effect. It wouldn't do what I want if I had to tap two or more times to get it to switch speed.

But not in the two-speed mode. They both have to be set with the knobs.

Eventide Modfactor. You can set up footswitchable fast/slow sppeds. Or you can use an expression pedal and have specific rates set to toe-down and heel-down. Or.... you can control it with midi and ramp the tempo up and down using the clock-sync from something like the Moog MP-201

Oh yeah, I'll get an Eventide box and an MP-201, nice affordable solution!

TBH the MP-201 looks really attractive for a bunch of reasons but it's really expensive here in the UK.

Can't you set 2 different settings and go back and forth between them on all the larger Line6 pedals?

I know that I can on my DL4, and that the MM4 has several trems on it.

I'm pretty sure any of the Boss half-racks will do it with midi control - either the VF-1 or SE-70.

Haha yeah, I'm sure it is pricey! The MP-201 is NZ$1100 from the only store here that I know of that stocks it
