'Typical' Pedal Chain Position?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not happy with my present setup.

If you want I can tell you what I have going in the order they are in, but I'd rather have some cold information as to the best and most correct way to assemble my pedal chain.

Gear I have:::
1) MXR80 DI+ Bass
2) Boss LMB3
3) DeltaLab Digital Delay DD-1
It's so simple that one would think I had it set up and figured out. That would be a fail.

I take a signal out of the MXR80 for a Morley PT-1 tuner, but I also have a better unit in a milk crate that I converted to a rack with a Furman above the ToneWorks 'Cylon's Eye' tuner below it.

Any ideas?

Agreed, but since you're one of the cool kids SurferJoe, I'll tell you what I think .

If you plan on using the DI as primarily a DI and not just OD/EQ then it needs to be at the very end. If it's just OD and EQ put it before the delay. With the limiter/enhancer it's really up to you. Do you want to limit your overall signal or limit your bass signal before it hits the other pedals? I'd but it first because if it's last in the chain you'd have to configure it somewhat different every time a new effect is switched on but that's just me and I'm not limiter kinda guy anyway.

So here are the configurations I'd look at:

DI being used as DI only:

bass -> LMB-3 -> DD-7 -> M80 -> amp

DI as OD/EQ:

bass -> LMB-3 -> M80 -> DD-7 -> amp

This is what I guess I'm gonna do::

DI as OD/EQ:

Bass -> LMB-3 -> M80 -> DD-1 -> amp

---- since I use the MXR as an effect and not a DI. I have a DI on the amp itself, so I can always go that way if I have to. (Hopefully that never happens!).

I've been going Bass-> DD --> MXR --> LMB3 -->Amp.

So I know that's wrong. I just felt 'bad' --- know what I mean?

Thanks a lot for that information youse guys.

One thing I found is that I can use pretty much any amp/driver for the 2nd channel on the stereo OUT of the Digital delay - since the real tone is carried by the bass amp and the 'echo' can be missing a lot of the fundamentals and still sound good.
