Underbody Pedalboard Lighting Mod

Sign in to disble this ad
I've seen a couple of people do this before but never saw an explination on how they did it, and obviously some companies offer it as an option for their pedalboards. I'm having the underbody of my Pedaltrain Pro fitted for lighting. The pedaltrain is coming in the mail. Here's how i'm doing it.

2 12' Dual Cold Cathode Lights (I opted for blue)
Some Zip Ties
1 4 Pin Molex Y Adapter (You can get the one with the lights in the connectors and sexy UV reactive mesh)
1 AC 110v to DC 4 Pin Molex Converter
Sticky stuff or velcro (i'd go for velcro)

The materials cost around 30 bucks. Here's what i've got on it so far:

My cathodes and Y Adapter came in today so i'm planning how to put them on the pedalboard. I'll cascade them and velcro the blue boxes to the side, then the on/off switches will go against the backside of the pedalboard. The Y Adapter will meet in the middle with the AC to DC converter, in the mail BTW, and velcro to the backside of the pedalboard. I'll use a 3 outlet adapter velcro'ed to the back of the board attatched to an extension cord to power both the board and lights from there.

Sounds alot more complicated than it is. All of the slack cable will be ziptied for neatness and should be very clean. Here's a floor layout of what i have on it so far.

As it progresses, i'll update. Yay.

Ha! you got the same Idea I did when I put together my pedaltrain. I have a PT-2 with 2 blue lights under the uppermost and bottommost rails.

It looks really sweet. I mounted the switch on the underside so that I could turn them on and off if I want to. Also, I used the T-Rex Fuel tank for power on the board, and oh so luckily it comes with a 12v dc output. I cut and spliced an extra power cable I had into it and voila.

Surprisingly, there is pretty much no noise generated by the lights. I run an EBS multicomp at the end of the signal chain and with the lights on, there is a slight added hum...but nothing really noticeable (I am not an extreme tone snob).

Overall, it is really cool and I have gotten a lot of comments on it. On my big board which I am still putting together, I am still trying to figure out something cool to do.

I get plenty, thanks. The pedaltrain is on it's way and the AC is coming in today. Hopefully it's not too big so i can just velcro it underneath the board without any weight issues.

Yeah, the cathodes are very quiet. I'm running a boss EQ-20 though so i might need to watch out for that.
