hi all, im looking for an effect that i just cant name... i saw sigur ros bassist playing, and the sound he got was kind of like playing with a bow... but it wasnt an ebow, he was playing fingerstyle and the sound was like if he got rid of the attack of the note... so the note is heard without the very first part... with the volume coming just when the note was "stable" am i talking nonsense??
does anyone know what im talking about? |

| | | | That sort of effect can be achieved with an envelope filter that triggers volume swells. You can do it manually with a volume pedal or with your volume knob, but there are also such pedals as the Boss Slow Gear and the Guyatone SV-2 that are made specifically to do that. |

The pedals that do that may sometimes contain envelope-sensing circuits, and may sometimes contain filters, but it is not what is generally known as an envelope filter.
Aside from the Slow gear and SV2 mentioned, there's a BYOC clone of the Slow Gear and a Behringer that does the same thing, and there's the Pigtronix ADSR which does even more. |

The Slow Gear from Boss is out of Production since the 80ties and is a sought after Effect , this will cost you a fortune. I never heard of the guyatone one, might be a choice. |

I would also venture a guess that you may not have heard the bass there--you might have been hearing the keyboard player |

Though I suppose that depends on the reverb. You can also get it if you're very good with reverse delays. |

| | | i cant recall the name of the song (it was icelandig fot god shake!), but it was from their heina dvd... iŽll let you know, iŽll see it again soon.
i am 100% sure it was the bass player... by the way, the closer i got was with the "fretless" effect in my digitech bp200 (awfull pedal, by the way, im hating it more day after day)
i just NEED to get that sound...... |

I don't know what they're going to do, really... but they're going to chase you around the block, at least! And maybe a block farther!

| | I'm a tumbler, born under punches | | Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Northern California | | | Try the BYOC Lazy Sprocket. It is really close to the old Boss Slow Gear I used to have. On the other side, I really didn't like the Guyatone SV-2 and the Pigtronix was a pedal I really wanted to like, but was just way too expensive for what it did.
My guitar player does volume swells manually with the volume knob on his Strat, but I've had a hard time doing it on bass, even when playing with a pick. Also, it can be done with a volume pedal as mentioned earlier, but it's very difficult to do it consistently and gets a bit tedious. |

My Stingray really doesn't make effects go crazy like some claim they do... its output has always been friendly to my fuzz pedals.
Or maybe I just like the extra gain I'm getting from them.
