upgrading: awesome effect on low quality amp

Sign in to disble this ad
hi all.
I have a peavey BXP bass that i really love and a peavey max 158, 15 watts amp that i don't love so much.
it's just for practice but I'd like a sound that i dig.
so i have been considering 2 options:

-buying a samsamp bass driver and keeping my crappy amp
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...-DI?sku=151780

-or buy a better amp but not the sansamp bass driver. dunno which amp yet but one with at least a 12 speaker and a good EQ, maybe the TKO115 from peavey.

the first solution is more economic but i don't know if it will work. maybe the amp will limit the awesomness of the bass driver.
so what's do you think?

Option #1 won't do anything for you.

Save your pennnies and buy a better amp. For example, the Line6 Low Down Studio 10 for about $250 will give you a wide range of sounds, probably including what you're looking for, as well as 75 watts output. There are others in that price range, too; I just mentiuon the Line 6 as I tried it the other day and it impressed me.

thx guys! i thought too that the sansamp would be useless with that crappy amp of mine.
i might end up buying the sansamp and a new amp if i can find a nice amp that's not too expensive
anyway thx for the precious and money saving advices.

+1, don't just get a slightly bigger amp, get a serious amp. You can pick up a decent-quality used combo or head/cab for around $300 if you keep your eyes open, and that is not too much money to save up for. And +1,000,000 to getting a better amp before you buy any effects.

Yeah, it's pointless to buy an fx pedal without already having a decent enough amp to play it through. Do some research on amps, there's more good stuff available now than ever before, and good deals around every corner. Good luck.
