never had the b3 but had the b9 and traded it after a couple of uses.Went to all stomp boxes. I didn't like the sounds, the switching from effect to effect can be a little irritating, and the fact that you don't have a clean/bypass sound. The tube didn't do much if anything, more of a gimmick IMO. I used it with a Rickenbacker 4003, Ampeg SVT4 Pro and an Ampeg 8x10 cab. I much rather stomp boxes, more control and versatility IMO.

Zoom b3 definitely. it has a large variety of effects, amps and cab models at a pretty good price. I have sound samples of the zoom b3 on my soundclick website. here's the link

Feel free to check it out.

B3 for the simple reason that this is where the Zoom engineering is focused on concerning new effects/features et rest.

Yes my mistake, I was thinking of the b2. The b3 wasn't available yet when I was shopping. The b3 looks like they just miniaturized the b9 and made the expression pedal optional.

That definitely used problems on the B2 (Yep. I had one o' them, too.).

It's a bit more of an overhaul on the B3, but you're correct: you can definiteley see the building blocks from the B9.

Make sure to check out CharlieC's thread - Zoom B3 As Preamp

Like you, I've never been an effects user. Now, I'm in a no-amp situation and I want effects on a half dozen songs or so. I'll be using it as preamp/DI unit and leaning on the amp and cabinet sims.

I looked at the B9. The computer control/setup/edit with the B3 is just perfect for me. I haven't played it out yet, but so far, on rehearsals it functions and sounds great.

My plan is to set up patches (labeled by song title) that run with the set list, possibly with a "default" amp sim in between each, so that I'm never more than one foot click away from an effective bypass sound. With the software and a USB cable, this is a piece o cake.

There are 55 (and counting) different B3 patches to download and try via "Edit & Share" here:

Zoom B3 patches to download and try

Why not upload and share some of your custom patches?

Agreed, but patches will sound totally different between basses and rigs that are different than the ones used to create the patches....

you're right but i think it could usefull as idea, then you can adjust'em. and one more thing: write the rig and the bass used by the patches creators.

Guys who upload patches are more than welcome to do that if they like.

Personally, I can't see myself ever being interested in that information, it has no relevance to me and my rig.

I download a patch, try it out, then tweak it to suit me as best I can. I don't really care what it sounds like through someone else's bass and amp.
If it sounds good and I like it I keep it, if not I download a different one over the top of that last one and go through the same process again.
