VT Bass DI Bite=Hiss ?
Have been playing with the new VT Bass DI for about a week now and dialing it in. Previously I was using a V1 VT Bass. I was noticing the amount of hiss I get when I have the "Bite" Button activated. Also the amount of hiss I get with the Character Knob above 12 0'clock.
Any others that might have comments, suggestions or findings?
It all depends on how the rest of the knobs are set, as with any pedal. I've had the VTDI for about a week and i'm still dialing in that perfect tone (in a band setting - not a quick process) and i haven't noticed the Bite knob adding hiss.
I keep the Blend between noon and nine and the Character never goes below three, if that's of any relevance.
How hot are your bass pickups, and what is the treble setting of the bass?
In general, more treble opens you up to more hiss, most especially when you are dealing with a pedal that has gain. The Character knob is all about rolling off and rolling on highs, so anything past noon is going to be very trebly. The Bite switch itself is a boost to the highs/treble to make your sound have edge in a band mix. Doing both at the same time is a ton of treble boost, so you will naturally get a bit of hiss from the hotness of the signal in those frequencies. If your bass is active and/or if you have your treble knob rolled up, it's only going to exacerbate the issue.
