VT bass mild overdrive - level knob question

I've been using my VT bass as a clean tone shaper for years and only recently I've been doubling it as a touch of mild overdrive because I wanted that sound in the recording I did.

In the studio, I turned up the drive to around 12:30 but kept level the same as my clean setting (11 oclock) and turned the amp volume down to compensate. The result I got from the recording was an amazing bass tone that I could not be more happy with.

OK so now, I wanted to replicate that kind of sound when I play that song live but don't want to fiddle with amp volume on stage so I lowered the level knob to match my clean setting volume as close as I can.

My level knob ended up around 8 oclock which seems very low and in all the youtube clips and settings posted here, none of you guys seemed to go that low. Is this normal to have low level when drive is boosted?

Thanks in advance and sorry if it's a noob question

The different versions have different ranges on the volume pedal, but really it's all about what sounds good to you!

Sounds possible.

I got the Deluxe version to deal with getting clean and dirty sounds on the fly. Three settings from clean to nasty and three boosted settings of the same tones and I have a massive range of maneuver.
