Whammy Mod for Bass

As all Tool fans out there know, it is almost impossible to get a digitech bass whammy for under $500. I recently purchased a digitech whammy IV, and for the most part I'm pretty happy with it. But when I play low notes the signal gets choppy and sounds like crap. I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is a mod that can be preformed on the whammy IV to make it a little more bass friendly.

This thread has a bunch of info on the Whammy 4 and making it work best with bass. Short version is hot signal + dirt =better tracking.
