since the digitech bass whammys are out of production i was thinking about buying the guitar digitech whammy. Do those work very well for a bass?

I've been wondering the same thing. My local GC won't let me try out any pedals, so I don't know if it would work with bass.

95% of all pedal work with bass. How they sound might not be so hot, but they usually do work

ah well, I got the red wh4 which I guess you're talking about and there is some tone suck when it is on, but it's not that bad. No one will notice it except for you, and you're going to be shifting the heck out of notes anyways so it's really not bad at all.

It can handle all my strings okay, but it's not very friendly to chords (I think that's true of most whammies tho...)

exactly, i guess i should have been more descriptive. has anyone tried the whammy2? and if so what are the differences between the whammy 2 and the original whammy?

Never tried the Whammy 2, but my WH4 works fine on bass. Really fun pedal.

As far as tone suck goes, I find that it has a volume increase when I use it.

I've tried the Whammy IV. The sound quality wasn't great but it worked just fine and the tracking was surprisingly decent on low notes. Never tried anything below E1, though. I think of all shift/whammy pedals, it would be your best bet along with a Boss PS3/5. Maybe the tone suck won't be as noticeable if you combine it with other fx.

I have tried/owned the WH2 (black version) The current WH4 and then finally got myself a bass whammy on the Bay. Here is what i found in comparing

Tracking-Bass Whammy- (can be warbly...but it can be calibrated)
WH2-Great on guitar-Ok on bass
WH4-Great on guitar-Ok on bass


Pitch Changes-Bass Whammy-Great on bass, has settings (pitch and harmony) That NONE of the others have!
WH2-Great on guitar-Ok on bass NOTE (pitch change didnt not work at all (because of bass freq's) from the 5th fret down to the nut on the E string
WH4-Great on guitar Ok on bass except low notes on E string. Also the lack of some of the setting the bass whammy has


I hope this helped answer some questions. If your looking to play something specific on a bass and want to use any of the other whammy's you may want to look up the settings that you will need to use and if the E string is involved.
