Sign in to disble this ad
I'm just curious if anyone uses a whammy pedal for a bass line in a song.
If you do can you post examples?
There's these two guys I'm playing with that wrote a couple songs in Garageband and Ableton that the only bassline is synth and there's a few parts where it slides up in octave and I have been wondering how I could pull off that specific sound (oppose to just sliding up the fret board), and it was finally a "duh" moment just now.
I have never heard of anyone using a whammy that is essential to the bass line and wanted to hear examples to get ideas.

The two best examples that get thrown out are the bands 'These Arms Are Snakes' and 'Autolux'.
Check em out, plenty of stuff on youtube/myspace

In particular, he uses it a lot on 'Disposition' from the album 'Lateralus.' They're one of my favorite bands, and he's pretty much my hero when it comes to bassists.
Here is the channel I go to for Tool bass covers. This is 'Disposition:' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kuc-CtEvDOs . |

"Disposition" is cool, but it's mostly higher-register stuff that isn't really a bass line. But the outro on Lateralus is a great usage of whammy down low in the bass register.

Justin Chancellor uses the rare Bass Whammy (blue) instead of the normal whammy (red).

Right in two.. Intro 5th/6th http://www.myspace.com/46andtwoolympia
Just listen to the live cuts, and exuse the mistakes. Singer was sick and we were nervouse as hell.... |

I am sure he does, however I only have a Boss ME 20b and a Whammy IV.
I can not layer a lot of effects with my budget set up.
Plus, my skills are very limited to say the least.
My noobishness is always open to advice on what formula of effects that Justin uses. |

Anyway check out Seven Curtains by These Arms Are Snakes. Lots of whammy abuse.

For The Pot, he uses a SANSAMP GT2(Distortion), Bass whammy, Guyatone BR-2(autowah), Delay. |

| | | If you are curious as to what arsenal of effects JC uses, this should give you an idea. It took me almost a year to gather them all but it is FINALLY complete. |

If you are going to go THAT all out to reproduce his board exactly, why would you then add on two other pedals that he doesn't have? (I'm talking about the second colorsound, and the marshall pedal, of course). Just seems weird to be REALLY exact, and then make additions. |

| | | At the time I could not find the RX Electronics Depth Charge so I went ahead and picked up the bass fuzz by Colorsound for the time being. As for the other one, all it is is a A/B switcher that I use to cut out the dirty channel when need be. I play different types of music but Tool being the majority of it, which is why I have the ability to cut off the second channel. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
