Whammy / Pitch Shift Pedal

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi All ... this is my first thread

I need to ask you guys about some stuff concerning whammy / pitch shift type pedal.

In terms of using one for a Bass :
1. Do you use any? If so, what kind?
2. What do you think is the best whammy / pitch shift type pedal (not octave) out there? Preferably one that is still in production, but I'm also open for discontinued pedals (it's just they are mostly hard to find and expensive, especially where I live )

Looking forward to hearing from all of you TBers

First of all, welcome to the effects forum!

Lots of guys on here use whammy pedals. I don't personally, but the Digitech WH-IV is popular, and there have been a few threads recently about the Boss PS-3. Also, the Digitech Bass Whammy, but that one is mega-expensive

Always make sure to do a search though

Just do a search for 'whammy' in the effects forum - you will get LOADS of threads, full of information about exactly which whammys people are using.

Have fun!

Do a quick search, you won't be disappointed. People already responded to many questions several times and it would be only logical if they do not want to do it all over again.

here is a recent thread about bass whammy, morphed into whammy comparison:

Digitech Whammy with bass?

Stay tuned for my Boss PS-3 versus Digitech Whammy IV thread... should be up in a few days (but IIRC, such comparisons have been done on a smaller scale before in older threads).

I'm currently comparing the two on their pitch shifting, harmony, and detune abilities.

Anyhow...

If you're interested in hearing a good example of a manual pitch shifting effect on bass, check out the albums Lateralus (by Tool) and Future Perfect (by Autolux). There are some great songs on both that demonstrate, in particular, a Digitech Whammy (the long-discontinued Bass Whammy is used by Justin Chancellor of Tool, and I believe it's the Whammy IV being used in Autolux).

Thanks to all that have post your replies.
I have never tried whammy-IV cos nobody that I know owns one. Bass whammy is almost impossible to find here in where I live . Boss PS-3 is something that I have been looking for for quite sometime now, but haven't had any luck . But my cousin who also plays bass just bought one so I might try his out.
Other than whammy and Boss PS-3, are there any other pedal that do similar thing? Preferably the one that is still in production. I know Boss has PS-5 but it's not quite like the PS-3. There's also behringer fx600 that can do pitch shift, but I try to avoid behringer for reliability reason (although I own a couple of their pedal that still work fine but they feel a little flimsy).
I'll try and search the forum.
Again, thanks for your replies
