What affect is this? Magnum Opus - Kansas

One of my favorite all-around bass tones - Dave Hope of Kansas. I know he mainly played P-basses. Not much info on his amp setup though. Ampeg???

I have a VT-Bass pedal for my primary tone shaping and it works great for me. However, lately I have been thinking of adding a fuzz/effect to my tool set. I have always enjoyed this tone and was wondering what effect it could be.

The section also sounds like he was playing an amp in an empty hall - probably reverb which was added during the recording process.

"Fuzz" Tone in question starts at 0:57

Thanks for any ideas,
P.S. Also love the rapid-fire notes as he works with the snare at 3:21-3:28.

Kick the character knob of your VT up to full clockwise and play around with the EQ from there. It sounds like SVT overdrive to my ears.
