What is the best Boss "gain" pedal?

This poll is mostly just for fun, although I do think it would be cool to find out if there is some sort of awesome sleeper Boss gain pedal. I had to limit the pole to the compact pedal series because of the number of pedals Boss has made. Even after that I had to choose a couple pedals to exclude.

Here are the pedals not in the poll:

HM-3 Excluded because it was not sold for very long and is not that popular AFAIK. It is also very similar to other Boss distortions.

ML-2 Excluded due to use of the word 'core' in the full name 'Metal Core'.

OD-2r Excluded because it's pretty much the same thing as the OD-2. Just vote for the OD-2 if this is your favorite Boss gain pedal.

PW-2/XT-2 Not excluded but grouped because they're both weird and were made during the same period of time and were both made for less than a year.

Other exclusions include the COSM pedals that model guitar amps, and any pedal I couldn't easily find out about by searching the web. Let me know if you think I left out something good.

I've always felt that there was something "fake" sounding about Boss gain pedals, but I was playing around with a DS-1 yesterday, and it seemed kind of ok, so it inspired me to make this poll. I realize this poll is a little silly because it includes pedals ranging from OD to crazy fuzz, but I really just want to see what the favorites are regardless of style. If you feel that there is a Boss gain pedal that is best, but only when modded, just vote for that pedal and explain any mod details in a post.

Sorry there is no other/carrots option. There were too many pedals to include.

The HM-2 really only has one useable setting on bass (with the tone knobs pointed towards each other), but that one sounds is pure germanium saturated doom.

i voted ds-1, but they are much better if modded for bass.

EDIT: Oops, MZ-2 is there. Subtract one vote from HM-2 and put on the MZ-2.

My second favorite is one of the COSM models, the FDR-1. It really is a great sounding pedal.

Wow, seven votes so far and seven different pedals (once BC's vote is fixed).

FZ-2 here.

But that's strictly going by recordings I've heard it on.

I waffled between SD-2 and PW-2, but ultimately went with the Power Driver.

FZ-2 or HM-2. I voted FZ-2 because I have one and love it, but I may pick up an HM-2 for the lulz

SD-2,...LED Clipping FTW.

Although I had a BD-2 when I was dabbling in guitar the second (of 3) times. I thought it was great pedal on guitar.

The boss md-2 mega distortion sounds phenomenal on bass. this pedal can give you a grinding sound on bass. not to mention that it's got a lot of lows.

voted hm2.
it's the only bossgainer that didn't either get lost in the band mix (md2), sound like crap leading to use as a glorified eq/ boost (odb3), or drop bottom (pretty much most of the others!)
IMO/ IME of course
