My friend who plays guitar has his pedal board set up with all Boss pedals and he swears by them. I am looking to buy a few of them pretty soon myself. I am just wondering what Boss pedals are you guys currently using. I am looking into the SYB-5, ODB-3, GEB-7, CEB-3, and TU-2. What do you all think of these pedals?

| | | | If you want a decent bass synth I'd forget about the SYB-5. I've tried it and the tracking is pathetic. The sounds are ok but it just couldn't keep up with my playing. The Ibanez SB7 is much better and probably cheaper.
I've also got an RC2 loop station in my gear box but it's not that useful I find for bass, at least for live work. |

None of the above as I think you can find better performing pedals for bass for around the same price. But I do have an LS-2, an HM-2 and an OC-2.

the equaliser is just that,... was never bad per se but I really don't have a use for it except as a boost?
the CEB3 I dont mind but can be a bit on the subtle side,...
the TU is good, tracks my 5 strings very quickly
just a comment ive noticed with the boss bass chorus and on the flanger input... Boss tend to 'dumb down' bass effects and put on really short delays and make them more of a 'dry mix' than full on effects,... thats ok if thats what you want to go for... but for me most of the time I want to have some crazy effect when I stomp on it
(have noticed that a few people use the 'guitar input' on the flanger etc for settings)
hope that helps? I dont mind boss pedals, some are good some are just not tweakable enough for my liking or just dont have the far out sound I want...

OC3 works really well for what I need it for. CEB3 isn't too bad either.

GEB-7 was ok. Probably could find a better EQ around. ODB-3 was just horrible. Sounded buzzy and lack definition. Haven't tried to other 3 though. |

| | Registered User | | | | I have 2 BOSS pedals: OC-2 (Octaver) and FT-2 (Dynamic Filter / Touch-Wah).
I might try using an EQ (e.g. GEB-7) someday for a different instant sound (for slapping or whatever), but other than the above plus an EBS compressor, I don't use effects that much. But then again, I have 3 different preamps as stompboxes that I prefer to apply for some subtle tonal shaping rather than using EQ...
Perhaps if I take up fretless again someday, I might try out a good chorus or even reverb...
I like the OC-2 because it tracks reasonably well, and you have 2 octaves to play with and full control over both octaves and the direct signal. If you turn up oct 2 (two octaves below) and kills octave 1 and the direct signal, you can actually get a very sub-kinda-sound if you play above the 12th fret, which kind af resembles a synth sub-bass. Just an idea for experimenting.
I also love the FT-2, which BOSS don't make any longer for some reason. IMHO, it's the best touch-wah they ever made - it sounds so funky! |

Theyre all cool boxes but the PS-3 is the coolest. |

The Bassman pedal is really a guitar pedal but I like the effect it has on my bass.
If your shopping for pedals, I'd also keep track of the discussions on the Tech21 VT. Many are excited about its ability to emulate an Ampeg SVT.
Cheers!

| | | | TU-2 (off the tuner out) and on my board, an OC-3, PH-3, and LS-2. I have a CEB-3 that I usually use but is put away for now because I'm out of links on the daisy chain, and a borrowed Blues Driver.
I love the OC-3, but from what I hear, the setting I use is the one most like an OC-2. Add either the Phaser (using the manual's "tremolo" setting) or the Chorus (using the manual's "Vibrato" setting), take things up the neck a little bit, and I can do a very Charlie Hunter/jazz organ/8-string bass type vibe.

RC-2 (Looper): Works very well live with a add-on momentary pedal for stopping / tap tempo. I mainly use it to fire off samples, but it does see some use as an actual looper (especially for songwriting).
CEB-3: Love it! Lots of folks call it subtle, but I've never had a problem with it being heard for what it is. It's a keeper for me!
AW-3: This is the one I'm not sure will stay on the board. It's a lot of fun and actually works very well, I'm just not using it much in my band setup at the moment (although there are a few fun places I do kick it in).
OC-3: Up for sale in the TB classifieds. Poly mode tracks quite well as long as you aren't playing low, sounds good...I'm selling because having a Whammy on my board made it redundant.
Last but not least....
CS-3: This is absolutely, positively, without a doubt my FAVORITE pedal. Love it, love it, LOVE IT! Here's the catch: I have the Humphrey Audio Mods CS-3 "Bass Smasher" version. Modded, it's stone quiet and can go from totally transparent to entirely smashing your signal with just a tweak. Sustain for WEEKS. Out of the box? Noisy and crappy.
Forgot to mention: I used to have the TU-2. It's great for what it is. Works well on a 5-string, no issues. No frills, it just does exactly what it's designed to do and does a fine job of it.
