It depends...

1. Do you need a new amp? (Is your current one on the fritz?)
Yes - get the amp
No - continue to the next question

2. Do you need a smaller-wattage amp? (Do you only own a 1200 watt beast?)
Yes - get the amp
No - continue to the next question

3. Can you see yourself using the amp? (Will it not just sit in a dusty room by its lonesome?)
Yes - get the amp
No - continue to the next question

4. Will the amp be of more use to you than new effects pedals? (Will the effects not get used, and sit in a dusty room by their lonesome?)
Yes - get the amp
No - continue to the next question

5. Are effects currently a big part of your sound?
Yes - Get the effects
No - Get the effects, and then make them a big part of your sound.

If the "lightweight GK" is a Class D amp;...I avoid using any kind of gain with my (A00, unrevised) GK MB2-500 Class D amp. It just doesn't seem to handle any sort of high gain well at all. I think it's a combination of operator error and Class D amps heating up to easily and quickly, but I don't want to chance frying the poweramp,...so I use my Class A, Preamp/Stereo Poweramp setup for the wall of Fuzz band. The GK is great for the clean/modulation setup for my straight up R'N'R project.

The moral of the story is; if you plan is to use a lot of gain (Fuzz/Disto/OD) I wouldn't recommend using a class D amp. Mileage may vary.

well the small head is more for my back than anything. my sound is my mxr m-80 so any amp will work for the cover band. the ampeg is for the the power trio. sooooo heavy!! I also use a sound city 120 40+lbs head. It's a six peice band so power might be a problem outdoors or in the bigger clubs. I have like $300 but i could spend more. Has anybody had a bad thing to say about the gk head? Or I could buy the blackcat octave bass fuzz and to hell with it all. JUST A THOUGHT!!!!

I'd buy some fuzz and crank them through that Sound City.

you know what i like to do when i have extra loot......buy used effects from TB classified and resell what you don't like. you will probably only lose the small cost of shipping and paypal fees, and you get to experiment with what you like/don't like.

the cover band is beatles stones bad co. chicago floyd clapton some 80's cars joe jackson zz top. the power trio is husker du minutemen buzzcocks stooges dead kennedys police mountain clutch. so you see the gk for the covers or effects for the trio. the cover band has become a job and the usally means it's coming to an end. so maybe a fuzzhugger AB synth or that black cat just might do the trick!!!! check out fuzzhugger.com alot of cool stuff!!!
