What distortion pedal would get me this sound?
Well i wanna know what distortion would get me close to the tone on the song in the link below or even better yet know the exact pedal and or amp used.
If the link isn't working the song is For Marcus by The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower.
Killer album! Absolutely love the bass tone on this.
Being a bit of a Plot to... geek, I've seen from some old live footage that Willy Graves (sadly RIP) played a Musicman (with a pick) > Ampeg for most of their live stuff.
I'm guessing what you're hearing there is just really aggressive playing through a loud Musicman Pre-Amp into a Ampeg head.
The album does however sound like a passive bass to me, so it might be a Jazz favouring the bridge pickup - definitely sounds like that to my ears anyway!
There won't be a specific pedal to get this tone - it's all about playing style, tube grit and aggression!
Killer bass tone on this album. Love it. No pedal is going to nail this sound. It's a combination of heavy picking, bridge pickup, and hot preamp into an overdriven tube amp with a sealed cab. He very likely might be using something like a tubescreamer to get those growly mids, initial breakup and push the amp hard, but I'm sure most of the grit is from the tubes.
man.. kinda reminds me of dave ellefson's tone in rust in peace
That sounds like a Darkglass B3K but with a lot of lows cut out.
