I know these thread type pop a lot, but i figured I tried the search and couldn't find anything regarding my favorite hardcore/punk bassist Harley Flanagan and one of my favorite tones ever. For those uninformed of the Cro Mags here is a sample

I'm not sure of a Cro Mag sound, but modern hardcore bands (Guns Up!, Have Heart) use a SansAmp DI stompbox for bass.

Chokehold has a good bassist too.

I can't really help you, but Cro-Mags are fantastic.

We Gotta Know is one of the best hardcore songs ever.

Try a Boss ODB-3, I think that will get you close.

check out the link below. we have a cover of world peace on our myspace. the distorted bass isn't that distorted but I think it's pretty good. all done with a sans amp.

actually, listening to it now, it doesn't seem like it has a lot of distortion on it. i know from talking to older heads that a lot of the old school records the bass players used a guitar head. i know it sounds stupid but it happened. the tone on that recording could be done with a sans amp.
