What do I need to do this?

Sign in to disble this ad
If I have two preamp pedals that I would like to choose from, what would I need to switch between the two? I would obviously want to split the original signal in two, to go to the separate preamps, but then I would want the two signal paths to come back together to go into a power amp. This way any effects would run into both preamps, and, leaving both preamps on all the time, I could use a single footswitch to choose which one is in the loop and gets sent to the amp. Is there a single unit that can do this (I'm not quite sure on exactly what an A/B-Y box is), or would I need two, one before and one after the preamps? Thanks... Hope it's not too confusing.

Brian

Your best option is a two-loop bypass pedal, with one switch that's used to alternate between the loops. One preamp would be in each loop. All of your effects would run into this pedal instead of running into your poweramps.

(I'd also recommend adding a mute switch for your convenience, unless you already have something for muting)

I know www.loop-master.com and other true bypass loop pedal builders can make these. I'm not sure if they're a regular item on Loop-Master or if it needs to be custom-made; let me check.

Here it is:

Normally, this is just for pedals, but it'll work fine for rack stuff like preamps, too. After all, it's just a simple switch in the signal path.

$58.00 + shipping. Not bad, huh?

The only drawback is that you'll need a lot of cable to run for your setup. But I think you knew that already.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for!
